Government beefs up virus and hacking security

Parliament employs MAILsweeper to protect against email attacks
Written by Will Knight, Contributor

The Houses of Parliament has reinforced its computer defences to combat the threat of 'email borne security threats' it was revealed Thursday.

Email content scanning solution MAILsweeper will be used to protect Members of Parliament and over 2,100 other staff from hazards such as viruses and trojan horse programs.

Parliament was just one British institution brought to a standstill when the ILOVEYOU worm toppled its email system on 4 May.

Content Technologies which produces MAILsweeper says that government is becoming increasingly vulnerable to this sort of threat and is well advised to rethink security.

"No organisation can afford to take Internet content security lightly," comments international marketing director at Content Technologies, Chris Heslop.
