HP yesterday launched an ecommerce initiative aimed at supporting personalised mobile e-services.

Built around its existing ecommerce infrastructure of open architecture and standards such as WAP, it will tailor services to a customer's location and type of mobile device. The package integrates BroadVision Technology and OpenView manager, which will lets customers complete transactions over mobile devices with the applications' business users. John Chapman, director of strategy and business development at HP, said: "The number of mobile users will cross the threshold of a billion, that is when mobile ecommerce will take off. We can't see it now, but it will happen and if we don't invest now it will be too late."
