SINGAPORE, 23 June 2000 - Hewlett-Packard Company has announced a S$3 million investment into an Asia Pacific Storage Area Networking (SAN) Integration Center.
The first Asia Pacific SAN Integration Center will be based in Singapore and mirrors existing worldwide operations in the United States.
HP will announce a European SAN Integration Center to be based in Germany later this year.
Dr Tom Scharwz, channel manager, Enterprise Storage Business, HP Asia Pacific, said, "The Asia Pacific SAN Integration Center gives companies more options over the longer term. Companies can acquire products cost-effectively from an array of the best products, technology and standards available. Compaq, IBM and Sun servers will soon be part of the center to showcase our commitment to Open SAN architectures."
HP's SAN Integration Center caters to corporations wanting to consolidate and centralise their data. The center provides four core services - demonstrations, concept testing, benchmarking and training.
The SAN Integration Center will test business continuity and SAN management interoperability.
Engineers will be on site to offer interoperability assessment, tuning and pre-sales proof of concept testing while providing customers configurations tuned for optimum results.

HP OEMs and resells SAN Manager Software
To hasten a multi-vendor SAN software environment, HP has crafted an Open SAN software program.
Under this program, HP offers its HP SureStore E SAN Manager Device Management (DM) and SAN Manager LUN Management (LM) software solutions for OEM and reseller relationships.
Host Bus Adapter (HBA) and switch vendors join SAN Interoperability Progran
As part of HP's Open SAN infrastructure, HP will be offering infrastructure components from multiple vendors.
Agilent, Emulex, JNI and QLogic are the first HBA vendors to enrol in this program.
HP also offers BROCADE's SilkWorm 2800.
