HP TouchPad: If you do not already have an order, you may not get one

HP is building a final batch of TouchPads, but if you don't already have an order with them for one you may not get one.

The HP TouchPad will go on sale for the last time in a few weeks and while the original fire sale had lines at retail stores don't expect that this time. Even though HP has indicated the final production run will consist of 100,000 - 200,000 units, the company is telling interested parties that those will largely go to those unable to previously get one before supplies ran out.

While some retail stores seem to be taking full price orders for the TouchPad online, HP is unofficially telling callers it will only sell the next batch online at its web site. Folks asking about these TouchPads are told that a large number of orders unfulfilled last time will get first dibs on the final run. It's not clear how many buyers that may be, but HP is stating it is a substantial number.

HP is not currently allowing online orders for this final batch of TouchPads, but it seems likely the $99/$149 pricing will apply for the 16/32GB models respectively if orders begin again. The only information HP has provided states clearly that if you don't already have an order in the system then you may be out of luck.

For orders placed after 4am CT on Monday 22nd August, US SMB had already sold out of HP TouchPad. We are unable to fulfill these orders and they have been cancelled.

If you placed an order prior to 4am CT Monday, August 22, we are working through the large volume of orders, verifying payment details and seeking to source inventory for fulfillment.  This process is taking longer than first anticipated. At this time, we cannot guarantee supply to all these orders but are working to supply as many orders as possible.

Hopefully you already have your order in for a TouchPad or you may not get one.
