The HTC Sensation and Sensation XE will be the first HTC handsets to receive an update to Android 4.0, better known as Ice Cream Sandwich, followed closely by the Sensation XL.

The company said in November that it would begin rolling out the update to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) in the first quarter of 2012 and has now announced that it will begin the process in March.

"HTC has been working hard to get its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready, and we're excited to announce that our first round of ICS upgrades will roll out by the end of March for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE," the company said on its Facebook page on Thursday.

HTC, which also started unlocking the bootloaders on some of its devices to allow custom ROMs to be installed, will also be delivering the update to the HTC EVO 3D, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD "later in the year", it said.

In the US, the Sensation 4G will be in the first round of updates but the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G will also have to wait until later in the year to get the update, HTC said.
