id Software-- the games company responsible for the hugely successful PC game Quake -- today had its Web site hacked by campaigners attempting to drum up support for the release of famous hacker Kevin Mitnick. Mitnick was jailed four years ago, after a high profile FBI investigation to track down one of America's most notorious computer criminals.

Visitors to id's site, hoping to find the latest news on the popular game, were greeted with a message that read "Free Kevin Now".
