Increased funds for CSR low-cost Bluetooth chips

Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR) has confirmed that it will receive further venture capital funding from Philip Electronics and Compaq to produce low-cost Bluetooth chips.

The Cambridge-based firm, the only company with a single-chip design qualified by the 2,000-strong Bluetooth group, has announced the latest backing of $8m, closely following $34m raised last month. Matthew Phillips, vice president of strategic marketing at CSR, said: "Chipsets oday cost around $30, we aim to produce devices for high volume applications by 2001 for $5."
