Mac market share keeps moving upwards

Web statistics vendor Net Applications on Friday released its browser and operating system figures for January. The Mac share is again up, inching past 7.5 percent for the month.

According to the site's calculations, the Mac share for January was 7.57 percent and the Windows share was 91.46 percent. The company said that for two days in late December, the Mac share hit 8 percent.

Looking at the year-over-year figures, the Mac share climbed 21.7 percent. The Windows share fell 2 full percentage points from 93.33.

In addition, the year-over-year comparison of the Linux share showed a gain, from 0.42 percent to 0.67 percent.

The iPhone share was 0.13 percent, putting the new mobile platform in the Number 4 spot.
