According to a post on the PowerPage ("Leopard Losing Touch with MacBook Pro Keyboards, Trackpads") MacBook Pro users are experiencing an unusual "keyboard deafness" under Mac OS 10.5 Leopard.

The story, which originated at Macworld UK, cites several MacBook Pro users whose keyboards and trackpads stopped working under 10.5. The only apparent solution: reboot your computer.

In many cases, the problem seems to be intermittent. One user who identified himself in a forum post as "Cub man", reported that his keyboard would stop working and become unresponsive to the point where even the caps lock and number lock lights would refuse to turn on. The bug would then resolve itself after a few minutes and resurface at a later point in time.

The same bug recently hit my wife's MacBook (non-Pro). The mouse continues to work but the keyboard becomes deaf to all key clicks. We originally thought that invoking the screen saver is what causes the problem, but it appears to randomly occur after a period of inactivity. The power button still works when it happens and a reboot is the only fix that will wake the keyboard.

No word on whether Apple is addressing the keyboard deafness issue in the forthcoming 10.5.1 updater.

Anyone else get bit by this bug?
