For those who have been waiting with bated breath, the LiveCD iso images for Mandriva One 2010.0 Beta are now available. The Mandriva Free DVD images have been out for almost a week, of course. See the release notes for a list of download mirrors.

I am downloading the LiveCD as I write this, I'll probably get it installed this evening, and see how it works.

Update: This is an Alpha Test distribution, and it shows. The LiveCD takes a LONG time to boot. It puts up the splash screen, fills the status bar across the bottom of the screen... and then just sits there, for a very, very long time. SO long that you will be convinced that it has hung and will never boot. Then suddenly it comes to life again. It appears to me that once you finally get it installed, the installed system sometimes does this too, but not always.

In addition, on my ASUS N10J netbook the installation windows come up too large (larger than the 1024x600 screen), so the Next/Back buttons and such are not visible, and I can't get the windows to move with Alt-Click-Drag. So I finally gave up trying to install it on that system.

As I said, this is very much an Alpha Test release, so treat it that way. I will not be doing much with it, other than perhaps looking at how Xfce works on it because there are some interesting hints about that in the release notes. Some Alpha releases are already stable enough to be used for a lot of things, and some are not. This one is definitely not, but that does not say anything bad about Mandriva, their development, or what the final release will be like.
