Recently Mercury Interactive announced its blueprint for its business technology optimization (BTO) strategy. The blueprint is a comprehensive view of how Mercury's technology can be integrated across IT boundaries (e.g., development, operations, and IT management) and also serves as a repositioning of all Mercury's product lines, to ensure consistency and alignment with the BTO vision. While BTO is the broadest undertaking Mercury has ever attempted, META Group is positive on the overall direction. Mercury has proven its ability in deliberately executing on a strategy and delivering solid technology. Mercury's tie of IT governance to more traditional management areas is a solid implementation of the future of IT organizations operating more like a business unit then a cost center. Mercury is well positioned to grow to become a larger systems software player.
