The Secret Intelligence Service of Britain has launched a website at http://www.mi6.gov.uk/output/Page79.html.

It is interesting to get a concise picture of this intelligence agency that has been carefully culled of most of the hype. Although references to James Bond are used to dress it up a bit.

I am happy to report that the site http://www.mi6.gov.uk was running Apache-AdvancedExtranetServer on Linux when last queried at 13-Oct-2005 01:40:28 GMT (according to Netcraft). If it had been running IIS I would have said something scathing so it is only fair to point out that this choice of server instills confidence in the cluefullness of SIS.

Hmmm... what are other agencies running?

Let's see - FBI.gov is Linux Sun-ONE-Web-Server/6.1 running over the Akamai network. So, they even have some defense against denial of service attacks. I give the FBI top marks.

www.cia.gov is running on Solaris 8 Netscape-Enterprise/4.1. Good.

And uh-oh. www.nsa.gov is running Windows Server 2003 Microsoft-IIS/6.0 Hey, cute they have a kids page too:
