Word of Microsoft's big announcement in about an hour is out. The news: Microsoft is pledging not to sue open source companies over products that connect to its software.

Ina Fried reported the news, but color me skeptical. Is this a Microsoft peace offering that could actually annoy the open source community? After all, the open source community never bought into the idea that Microsoft could and should sue them.

The company has inked deal with Novell and others, but it's going to be interesting to see how this goes over. Stay tuned.
