KUALA LUMPUR, 8 August 2000 - Microsoft experts and consultants from the US and the region will converge for five days to educate and share best practices with Malaysian IT professionals, knowledge workers, software developers, as well as corporate decision-makers, at the first Microsoft TechEd 2000 conference in Malaysia, from August 21 to 25.

More than 20 experts from Microsoft will be at TechEd 2000 to lead seminars, demonstrate applications and respond to anticipated high interest from the Malaysian IT community. More than 100 technical sessions with the Microsoft experts will be conducted during the convention, making TechEd 2000 the biggest IT conference in Malaysia to date.

At the convention, these experts and consultants will share best practices, opinions, and technical know-how on development and deployment of technology solutions that are critical to today's businesses.

Among the more than 20 experts and consultants participating in TechEd 2000 are LJ Germinario, Ken Rosen, Bob Heath, Wally Mead, Peter Meister, Toi Riley, and Joern Wettern.

"We've brought together some of the best minds at Microsoft. For example, Microsoft's Commerce Server 2000 expert, LJ Germinario, will be here to lend her expertise, knowledge and share best practices on the deployment of e-commerce applications. She's spoken about e-commerce deployment at several key IT conventions, including Comdex and Internet World.

"Ken Rosen is a certified Microsoft trainer specialising in Windows 2000 platforms. He will address Group Policy issues that deal with specifications of particular policy settings such as desktop configuration.

Ken will also demonstrate the deployment of Windows 2000 Professional by using Windows 2000 Server Remote Installations Services," Fong said.

Fong continued to highlight TechEd 2000's combination of education and recreation, with all activities underpinned by technology, aims to show the impact of technology on today's lifestyles and work-styles.

"For R&R, we have organised a Geek Fest, at which delegates can unwind and network among themselves. We have engaged two celebrity DJs, Fly Guy and Li'l Kev, to host Geek Fest activities, so we can be sure that everyone's spirits will remain high at the end of each day," said Fong.

Fong continued that TechEd 2000 is in line with Microsoft's commitment to building the Malaysian software developer community.

"We brought TechEd 2000 to Malaysia because we want to ensure that the local industry has the latest information and access to leading-edge technologies and tools. It's important that local software developers are equipped with the latest information so that they can build mission-critical applications for their own customers.
"TechEd 2000 provides attendees with a place where Microsoft's technology, services and partners come together. We want to provide our customers and partners with the resources that can be used today for building solutions that empower their knowledge workers, provide links to their business partners, or do virtually anything that meets their needs in the new economy," he concluded.

Registration to TechEd 2000 is based on a first-come-first serve basis. Microsoft Enterprise customers have the opportunity to receive two additional conference seats free with every four conference registrations per company in a "4+2 Promotion."
