Microsoft has struck a deal with Motorola to allow Hotmail account holders to send messages via Motorola pagers. Users of Motorola's Talkabout T900 two-way pager will be able to send and receive messages and other Hotmail content from today - but while Hotmail customers will still enjoy free access via their desktop, pager users will pay for the service. Users can choose from three different plans. For $15 a month they can send 15,000 characters, customers paying $20 a month get 30,000 characters while those opting for the $25 plan get unlimited use. Hotmail has a customer base of 118 million users worldwide while Motorola, which began shipping its Talkabout pager in June 2000 now has over one million customers.
