News Burst: Nortel, Microsoft, Intel, HP to announce tie

Canadian computer equipment manufacturer Nortel Networks called a news conference today to announce the launch of a telecoms equipment venture with Microsoft, Intel and Hewlett-Packard.

Nortel said in a statement that Microsoft President Bill Gates, Nortel Chief Executive John Roth, Hewlett-Packard CEO Lewis Platt and Intel Chief Executive Craig Barrett would take part via satellite in the 1845 GMT news conference.
