Remember that commercial for the new Newsday iPad app? The one where a guy smashes his iPad against a kitchen countertop in an attempt to kill a fly? Well, Newsday has taken it down, and some are speculating the Apple may be behind the takedown.

Paul Fleishman, vice president of public affairs for Newsday told NetworkWorld "We have taken the commercial 'Flypaper' down and its short, glorious run appears to be over."

NetworkWorld's Paul McNamara thinks that it could be a conspiracy by Apple, unamused at the site of its magical iPad being smashed to bits.

Maybe someone at Apple decided that all the laughter generated by an abused iPad wasn't helpful.

Or maybe Steve was not amused.

There are plenty of versions of the ad still on YouTube, but if Apple is behind the takedowns, you may want to watch it while you can. My theory is that Newsday removed the ad then leaked a rumor that Apple forced them to do it.
