OmniSky connects European PDAs

OmniSky, a provider of mobile email and web services for handheld devices, has launched in Europe through a partnership with BT Cellnet.

OmniSky, a provider of mobile email and web services for handheld devices, has launched in Europe through a partnership with BT Cellnet.

It's a move that could speed up the race to make more PDAs wireless-enabled. Already research group Cahner's Instat estimates there will be 10 million PDA-wireless devices worldwide by 2004. OmniSky produces 'sleds' for devices such as Palm Vs and Handspring Visors allowing them to connect to mobile phone networks for voice and data calls. Through OmniSky International, users initially taking part in a beta programme will be able to access their corporate email and sites including Sports.com, Maporama and soon Sky from their PDAs. Pricing starts at £299 for device and service, with more details at available at http://www.omnisky.co.uk . OmniSky International is a joint venture between OmniSky and News Corporation.
