The Palm Pre debuted at CES last week, making a splash with its sleek lines and gesture control similar to that of the iPhone. The Pre comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 3.1-inch display, GPS and 8GB of storage, among other things.

Although the Palm Pre will be available in the US sometime in the first half of 2009 with carrier Sprint, Palm wasn't ready to disclose deals with international carriers.

"At this time we haven't made any announcements regarding distribution of the device outside of the US," a Palm spokesperson told ZDNet.com.au.

Australians have often had to wait for new releases of mobiles, with HTC's Dream running on the Android operating system being a recent example. It was released last year in the US but has yet to find its way into Australian carrier lists.
