Palm re-activates iTunes sync in Web OS 1.1

This is shaping up to be another cat-and-mouse game like when Apple tried to out-maneuver the Hymn Project from decrypting iTunes DRM in 2006 and 2007 (remember that?).

Pre w-iTunesThis is shaping up to be another cat-and-mouse game like when Apple tried to out-maneuver the Hymn Project from decrypting iTunes DRM in 2006 and 2007 (remember that?).

Palm has released Web OS 1.1 for its Pre smartphone and re-enable syncing with iTunes after Apple disabled it in iTunes 8.2.1. While it didn't initially mention the Pre in its release notes, Apple later came clean stating:

iTunes 8.2.1 is a free software update that provides a number of important bug fixes, It also disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre. As we’ve said before, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with unsupported digital media players.

LoopInsight notes that a post on the Palm blog states:

Palm webOS 1.1 re-enables Palm media sync. That’s right — you once again can have seamless access to your music, photos and videos from the current version of iTunes (8.2.1).

What's the over/under on the number of days before Apple releases iTunes 8.2.2 with, ahem, "bug fixes?" I'm going with 30.
