Siemens today moved to scotch rumours that its PC business was up for sale. Speaking at a pre-CeBit briefing in Berlin, board executive, Volker Jung, said Simens will continue "offering our customers Siemens PCs now and in the future...the PC business is profitable, and it is growing faster than our competitors'".

Volker outlined a restructuring of the Siemens Information and Communications interests into three semi-autonimous business units, dealing with Networks, Business Services, and I&C Products. To stress the extent of the independence and the competitive direction given to these units, Volker said each unit would be able to freely source the materials it needed in the open market, and would not necessarily need to buy from a Siemens sister company.
