PlayStation Network login flaw exposed, certain pages down
Problems over at Sony's PlayStation Network never seem to end. It's a new day, so there's a new security bug to deal with again.
In what could be construed as a glaring oversight, it has been discovered that PSN logins could be compromised based on how much sensitive data fell into the hands of hackers. That information included e-mail addresses and birthdays, which were precisely the tools that a legitimate PSN subscriber could use if he or she forgot his or her password and needed to reset it.
Theoretically, that means hackers could have already reset a bunch of PSN accounts already. To prevent this from happening in the future, Sony has closed off the login and password reset pages online only. So far there doesn't seem to be an issue when logging in directly on PlayStation 3 consoles.
In case you're worried that your information might have been at risk, you would have known if Sony sent you an e-mail in the last month telling you so. Additionally, all PSN subscribers are advised to change their passwords immediately, if they haven't already done so. This really isn't a joke - and be sure not to forget the new password. It might require a bit of hassle to get back into your valid account.
