The current chief executive Greg Ward wanted to step down to allow the role to be based in Melbourne where around 65 per cent of the company's 35 staff work.

Ward is continuing as a director with some responsibilities in South Australia. The head office remains in that state.

The new chief, David Thompson, joined Protegic earlier this year as general manager sales and marketing. Before joining the company he had been the Asian Pacific VP for data archiving software vendor AXS-One.

"Greg Ward has taken the company through this growth period, so we are very appreciative of his efforts in achieving this. Having David Thompson at the helm brings a new skill set to the senior management team and with his experience we will see Protegic grow from this excellent base," Protegic Advisory Board chairman Neil Gamble said in a statement.
