“Let others sift”

At my last contract, I happenchanced across the enigmatically self-titled High Street Bob (or highstbob to his friends) who filters information using a process of semiotic osmosis.

He is dismissive of traditional (sic) sources of news (calling The Register “The Daily Mail of the tech world”) and instead relies purely on a diet of personal recommendation and carefully selected Twitter.

“If it’s of any importance, then the message will get through” he brazenly declared.

“But what about Facebook” came the reply “You can't ignore Facebook!”

“I can. And I do.”

Luckily High Street Bob won’t mind me divulging these secrets, as his own creed prevents him from foraging in parts such as these.
