In the latest round of rumors concerning Apple's supposed "tablet" Mac ("Maclet"?), news from the China Times calls for a 9.7-inch touchscreen netbook to be introduced in October.

The Times claims that touchscreen supplier Wintek and battery supplier Dynapack have all received orders direct from Apple. In addition, Foxconn -- not previously-rumored Quanta -- will be the main manufacturer.

The significance of such a device is dual-fold: a tablet PC would represent a big undertaking and bold move by Apple, and such a device would also represent the most inexpensive portable computer to date from the company, simultaneously addressing and ignoring the recent surge of popularity by netbooks (which even Sony recently backpedaled on after [rightly] proclaiming the devices as a race to the bottom).

Well, let's hear it: would you buy an $800 tablet Mac?
