Samsung is usually no slouch when it comes to entering new product categories, but it has taken the company a while to decide to launch an ebook reader. And rather than launch just one, it has come up with two.

Making their debut at the CES show in Las Vegas, Samsung’s ebook readers have something a little different about them. The both cater for standard ePub ebook formats as well as PDF and .TXT based documents, but they also have touch screens and support stylus based input.

The readers also include built in MP3 players so that you can listen to audio books or have some background music playing while you read, and they also both sport a speech to text engine which can, says Samsung, read a book out to you with accurate pronunciation.

The E6

The E101

Both readers, the E6 and the E101, have handwriting recognition technology built in so that you can annotate reading or make other notes direct to the screen. The E101 adds some extra features such as cut/copy/paste which you invoke using stylus pressure.

And there is more. Both ebooks have Wi-Fi built in catering for download from remote service and also for local sharing.

Samsung’s duo are expected to be available in the UK in March, and I am looking forward to a hands on test.
