According to the China Brand Research Center's (CHN-BRAND) 2014 China Brand Power Index (C-BPI) ranking report released on Tuesday, Samsung was replaced by the iPhone maker as the leader in the mobile sector this year. The Suwon, Korea-based company has maintained first place since 2012.

CHN-BRAND said Samsung didn't secure the first place of C-BPI mobile ranking due to a fall in consumer loyalty. Samsung's biggest mobile competitor, Apple, had 568.5 points in the ranking, and Samsung had 566.6 points, even though it was a rise of 24.6 points from 2013.

CHN-BRAND mentioned Samsung as an example of focusing too much on market share.

"If companies [are] focusing too much on market share, while ignoring the concerns of consumers, it will cause a problem in brand management," CHN-BRAND said on its report.

But Samsung maintained its first place in the colour TV sector for the fourth year since CHN-BRAND started its colour TV ranking in 2011. The company secured its first place in monitors for the third year running.

Samsung ranked third in digital cameras, digital video cameras, and laptops.

CHN-BRAND calculated this year's C-BPI ranking by asking the brand preference of 13,500 Chinese people who are aged 15 to 60 in 30 cities from August 2013 to January 2014.

A Samsung spokesman declined to comment.
