Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, the next-generation Android smartphone running the long-awaited "Ice Cream Sandwich" update, is to arrive in the UK and Europe on November 17th.
The price? A whopping £549.99 ($886) for the pleasure of having it unlocked on all networks. Carriers will no doubt subsidise the cost further if you are upgrading your contract, and there is no word on how much it will cost for mainland Europe.
Amazon.co.uk has updated its pages to confirm the news -- with free delivery to those in the UK -- but notes that release dates are "subject to change".
Samsung also announced the news on Twitter, saying: "The #GalaxyNexus will roll-out across Europe from November 17th".
But it's still not clear when the Galaxy Nexus will reach other markets, particularly the United States. As CNET reported last week, Verizon said the Galaxy Nexus is coming 'later this year' after the launch was delayed as a mark of respect for the late Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs.
Some have rumoured at a November 3rd launch for Verizon's Galaxy Nexus, but doubts over how exclusive the Nexus is to Verizon has doubted the launch schedule. Reports suggest that Verizon removed the "exclusive" wording from its site, and clues in Verizon's sign-up page point towards a November 10th release instead.
Speculation aside, the Galaxy Nexus is one of the most anticipated devices of the quarter, and the impending holiday season. Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" includes facial recognition for unlocking the phone, photo-editing tools and Android Beam.
Its hardware includes a 4.7-inch super AMOLED high-definition touch-screen, sporting a dual-core 1.2Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM and two cameras -- a 5-megapixel camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The device will also run on Verizon's next-generation 4G LTE network, making the device physically and network-connected one of the fastest smartphones on the market.
