Skype already went down around the globe once in the last month, and now that problem is occurring for some users again.

Although the VoIP service hasn't divulged many details (such as what the problem is, exactly how many people are affected and when we can expect the problem to be resolved), it has acknowledged the problem both on its official blog and via Twitter:

A configuration problem has meant that some of you have been disconnected from Skype.

We've identified the cause of the problem, and have begun to address it. If you've been affected, you should start to see improvement in the next hour or so. You shouldn't need to manually sign back in to Skype - it should reconnect automatically when it's able to do so.

I tested it myself this morning using a computer running Mac OS X from New York, and things appear to be running smoothly here. So it's definitely not all users running into this issue.

Given the trend of outages these days, we can only hope that this this downtime doesn't have anything to do with hacking attempts.

Are any of you experiencing problems with Skype?
