Yesterday I blogged that we might expect a flurry of announcements of devices to run Windows Mobile 6.5, and Sony Ericsson is next on the list.

The Xperia X2 is a follow up to the, er, Xperia X1. Like its predecessor it sports a sliding QWERTY keyboard. Sony Ericsson has ditched Memory Stick Micro in favour of MicroSD card for memory expansion.

The X2 also sports the panels that I so disliked in the Xperia X1. Basically these are alternative screens, animated or still, that provide an ‘in’ to an application or service on the device. I found them clunky on the X1, it’ll be interesting to see whether Sony Ericsson has beefed up the ease of use on the X2.

Other features include:

3.2-inch screen, 480 x 800 pixels 110MB memory, microSD card for memory expansion HSDPA Wi-Fi GPS 8.1 megapixel camera Automatic screen rotation TV-out

Sony Ericsson says the Xperia X2 will be available early in the fourth quarter of this year.
