Sophos wins 27,000-seat InTACT deal

InTACT, the ACT Government's shared services agency, has selected Sophos' end point security in a three-year deal worth $544,000.

Under the auspices of ACT's Department of Treasury, InTACT awarded the contract to Sophos last November. It will see the security vendor's software protect 27,000 desktops, laptops and servers over the next three years.

The shared services agency, which has since become a part of the territory's Department of Territory and Municipal Services, employs 500 staff, and provides technical support to the territory's tertiary and primary education institutions, amongst other public service providers.

"InTACT is looking forward to working with Sophos to protect the ACT Government fleet from malicious software and future threats for several years," Dave LaMaitre, InTACT's desktop services manager said in a statement.

The shared services outfit has selected a combination of antivirus and firewall protection from the security vendor to protect the 27,000 desktops and laptops, which are shared amongst 18,000 ACT Government staff, 20,000 tertiary students, and 35,000 school students.

Sophos claims its client-based firewall software stops zero-day threats. The software also includes an application whitelisting feature, and a host intrusion prevention system.
