Sprint announces the Touch by HTC

I checked out an HTC Touch back in June and though that HTC did a very good job of taking an existing operating system and pushing the limits with some innovation. At the time the HTC Touch was only available outside the U.S. as a SIM-unlocked device. Today, Sprint and HTC announced the Touch by HTC for the Sprint network. A significant improvement over the Touch I tested out is the support for Sprint's high speed EV-DO wireless network. The Touch by HTC for Sprint will be available after 4 November for US$249.99 with a two-year subscriber agreement and a US$100 mail-in rebate.

The Touch by HTC has a nearly 3-inch display with the TouchFLO technology that allows finger swipes with HTC's interface. Sprint-exclusive content, like the Sprint Music Store, Sprint Exclusive Entertainment (SEE), and Sprint TV, are all supported on the Touch. I know that HTC was going to make a larger full screen keyboard utility available to existing owners soon and it will be interesting to see if that is already implemented in this device since text entry was one of the most difficult aspects I noted on the earlier device. The Touch has an amazingly small form factor and I am pleased to see a U.S. wireless carrier pick up the device.
