SINGAPORE, 11 July 2000 - Synapseworld, a business-to-business solutions provider, gave a preview of its products for the healthcare industry at a media launch today.

The company's current focus is on facilitating and integrating all sectors of the healthcare industry to promote a more efficient approach to the running of healthcare practices.

Synapseworld's major investors include EDB Ventures Pte Ltd and The ASC Group.

In conjunction with SpeechWorks International, the market leader in Speech Recognition technology, Synapseworld aims to make its vision for seamless integration of the healthcare industry a reality throughout Asia.

"Our rollout has begun in Singapore and we have plans to expand our presence to Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan within the next 12 months," said Cyrus Medora, CEO of Synapseworld.

Synapseworld harnesses a spectrum of communication technology including Speech Recognition, Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), as well as the Internet, Short Messaging System (SMS), Paging and the Facsimile to design tailor-made application systems that ensure more efficient commerce, communications and information sharing processes throughout the healthcare industry.

Synapseworld products

  • Synapse Comm: a patent-pending technology that allows doctors to order from a number of distributers at a time; has an offline/online system to increase efficiency; modules include appointments and referrals
  • MediVoice: a patent-pending technology that uses speech recognition for speech-to-text conversion; gives doctors access to information for over 7,000 drugs
  • HealthVoice: allows the public to dial into a hotline, say the name of a health condition and retrieve description of the condition
  • Answering Service: employs alpha-numeric technology that allows patients to contact doctors in the event of a medical emergency
  • MediWAP: uses WAP technology to give mobile doctors access to the drug database
  • Directory: a bi-annual publication that incomporates a drug index, a drug company index and a referral directory

"Our business is all about the creative and effective use of available technology," said Medora. "Synapseworld believes that the high demand for healthcare products, services and information can be met at a low cost by optimising and expanding the use of readily available technology."

Synapseworld also runs an interactive health portal where the general public can retrieve information about over 200 diseases. This portal will be launched by the end of September 2000.

Synapseworld is currently in negotiation with a technology incubator and other vendors to expand the use of speech technology in the healthcare industry.

In addition, it plans to expand into the shipping and consumer industries by duplicating and integrating its holistic technology approach into their practices.
