Newly published research clarifies the role of an important enzyme in the respiration and use of CO2 in plants and the soil. The enzyme, carbonic anhydrase, which is used by microorganisms living in the soil. The research points to warmer temperatrures incresasing the activity of the microorganisms and thus increasing the release of CO2 from the soil.
