In addition to the new iMac and iLife and iWork software suites announced in today's product presentation, Apple also used today to quietly launch a much-needed update to the Mac mini.
The new Mac mini was only mentioned briefly after Apple executives were asked about it during a Q&A session after the formal presentation.
Q: "How is the Mac Mini doing? And are you updating it?" A: "We are refreshing the Mac Mini and making it even faster. It's already in the online store."
The Mac mini is mostly a speed-bump, getting a faster processor. The 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1/80GB configuration is selling for US$599. The 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1/120GB configuration sells for US$799.
True to their word, the new mini is available in the Apple store and is posted on Apple.com, but curiously, the tiniest Mac doesn't warrant its own press release.
