Carson will be replaced by Jim Albaugh, a 34-year veteran of Boeing with experience in development programs and manufacturing. He has led Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems IDS) since 2002. Dennis Muilenburg will take over IDS. Both will report to Boeing CEO Jim McNerney, who seems to be developing his own team.
Carson made it clear his retirement was driven by the delays in the 787. He is 63.
"My decision is tied to many factors, but perhaps the most important reason for me was resetting the schedule on the 787. With this baseline in place, the new leader will have a clear path forward." he said in a statement to employees, according to flightblogger.
In my, I posited that the 787 will be worth many books once it flies and when a key Boeing exec in the know retires and can expand on now storied development program. Now we have one.
