Toshiba has expanded its enterprise storage products with a new range of high-specification SSD drives.

The new 2.5-inch form factor drive family, named MK4001GRZB, will come in 100GB, 200GB and 400GB variants. The family has similar technology and performance characteristics to Hitachi's recently announced Ultrastar family of SSDs.

The new Toshiba drives use 32nm NAND flash memory and interface via 6Gbps Serial Attached SCSI (SAS). The drives are capable of 90,000 read and 17,000 write input/output operations per second (IOPS). Hitachi's Ultrastar drives were capable of 46,000 read and 13,000 write IOPS.

The 200GB and 400GB have a guaranteed lifespan of five years with no limit on write operations. The 100GB drive is also guaranteed for five years but has a limit on the total number of write sduring that time — eight petabytes. The drives have a throughput of 510MB/s read and 230MB/s write.
