SINGAPORE - Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC), a provider of enterprise antivirus and content security software for the Internet age, and Critical Path Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a global provider of advanced Internet messaging solutions, today announced a technology licensing agreement enabling Critical Path to offer its Hosted Exchange customers email virus scanning as a value-added component of its messaging service offering.
In addition, both Critical Path and Trend Micro have been working closely with Microsoft to deliver a secure hosted Exchange 2000 solution. Trend Micro and Critical Path intend that, as a result of this relationship, organizations will be able to outsource their Exchange and Exchange 2000 messaging needs to Critical Path without having to worry about the threat of computer viruses.

According to IDC, the security services market is projected to grow from US$512 million in 1998 to US$2.24 billion in 2003, an average annual growth rate of more than 34 percent. In addition, IDC projects that the groupware market will grow to over US$2.6 billion and have 282 million users by 2003.
By integrating antivirus security services with groupware services, Trend Micro and Critical Path will provide customers with the ability to obtain a hosted collaborative messaging service that is secure, reliable and scalable, enabling customers to preserve scarce IT resources and focus efforts on other strategic projects.

Critical Path is licensing technology found in Trend Micro's award-winning InterScan® VirusWall® email gateway virus scanning software to detect and remove viruses from its customers' email. Customers using the service will have their networks protected from Internet-borne email viruses traveling in Microsoft Exchange environments that can compromise information security and contribute to user "downtime."
Viruses and other malicious code traveling in email attachments will be blocked at the SMTP Gateway, before they have a chance to enter the Exchange environment, spread, and do damage. By outsourcing their Exchange email virus protection efforts to Critical Path, businesses will be able to reduce the cost and downtime risk of costly viruses and be better able to control both the quality and the cost of their antivirus management.

"A major advantage of outsourcing our messaging needs to Critical Path is that we are able to benefit from Critical Path's advanced security features including virus protection," said Jon Netson, Manager of Network and Technology Services, of the Kansas Farm Bureau Services." Critical Path was able to successfully filter out the recent virus outbreaks at the network level before they reached the Exchange Server. Virus protection is a crucial component of our overall corporate security strategy and outsourcing part of our email anti-virus needs to Critical Path enables us to protect our valuable digital assets and at the same time focus on our core business."

With this announcement, Critical Path becomes the newest member of Trend Micro's eDoctor Global Network. Providing a better defense against Internet viruses, the eDoctor Global Network is a worldwide Internet antivirus initiative comprised of Service Providers (ISPs, ASPs, and telcos) who have selected Trend Micro technology to offer their customers value-added Internet antivirus security services including virus-free email.

Since 1999, Critical Path has provided businesses worldwide with significant cost savings, access to the latest Microsoft technology and one of the industry's most reliable, secure and scalable hosted Exchange service. Trend Micro provides businesses worldwide with best-of-breed, server-based, centrally controlled virus protection for Internet gateways, mail servers, file/application servers and desktops. Today, InterScan VirusWall is one of the most stable and scalable antivirus solutions on the
market.

"This agreement with Trend Micro is further proof that a comprehensive approach to security is crucial to protecting the digital assets of today's businesses and consumers," said Mike Serbinis, chief security officer of Critical Path. "Rather than creating point security solutions as an afterthought to our enterprise-class messaging, Critical Path is taking a higher standard of care in our approach to security by ensuring that we are using the right people, processes and technologies to create a security culture."

"Our relationship with Critical Path furthers our shared objective of creating a safe messaging and Internet experience for businesses," said Bernie Wu, worldwide senior vice president of sales and marketing for Trend Micro's Internet Outsourcing Services (IOS) division. "By partnering with a messaging leader like Critical Path, Trend Micro is continuing to deliver on its vision of building antivirus and content security into the Internet infrastructure."
