University of New England IT Director Peter Edwards will jump ship to take the top IT role at Central Queensland University.

Edwards would in early January take up the IT director position located in the sunshine state, a spokesperson for CQU told ZDNet Australia yesterday afternoon.

CQU has close to 3,000 PCs across its network, in addition to two data centres in its Rockhampton campus hosting around 190 production servers. The university currently serves around 30,000 students (local and international) with around 2,500 staff.

The appointment comes nearly six months after CQU's long-serving IT director Ian Jenkins retired on 20 June this year, after having sat in his role for almost 30 years.

Jenkins' deputy John Voss has held the role in an acting capacity until now. A spokesperson for UNE could not immediately confirm if the university had appointed a replacement IT director.
