Univa, a start-up trying to commercialize the open-source grid-computing software that governs technical computing tasks running across a network of computers, on Monday named Jason Liu its new chief executive.

Liu previously was CEO of Intrinsic Technologies and Callisto Software (acquired by Novell), and he also worked at Ravisent Technologies (now Sonic Solutions). He is the third CEO of Chicago-based Univa, which in March 2006 replaced founding CEO Steve Tuecke with Michael Ellis.
