Sony PlayStation 3 owners can look forward to the upcoming firmware update this summer - the first to include 3D support. However, that support won't be extended to 3D Blu-ray movies just yet.

The update to be released this June to coincide with the release of their first 3D TVs as well as four 3D PS3 titles. Well played, Sony.

Not so well-played will be 3D Blu-ray discs, which won't get any support in this release and there's no word on when we can expect such an update. Only 3D games will be operable with the firmware release at first. Talk about a summer bummer.

But the good news is that Sony will be releasing a 3D Blu-ray edition of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs to be bundled with other Sony 3D products. Maybe that's not such good news...
