Vic starts $10.6m cyber-bullying campaign

The Victorian Government has announced that it will funnel $10.6 million into keeping its students safe from cyber problems.

All Victorian government schools will receive $2000 to implement the program dubbed eSmart, as will 300 "needy" non-government schools.

Staff will be trained and student action teams will be formed to combat cyber bullying. If schools achieve progress towards "full eSmart status", with milestones set by the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, they will receive certificates and a sign displayed on the school front gate.

"Our investment in eSmart will educate students about the dangers of cyber bullying and other cyber risks and provide professional development for teachers on how to deal with it," Victorian Premier John Brumby said in a statement.

Schools would need to apply for eSmart status every three years.
