A full-service paediatric hospital that cares for children from all over New South Wales, Westmead Children's Hospital treats conditions ranging from minor to critical. ZDNet Australia goes behind the scenes to see how surgical staff are using IT to make their jobs easier.
Knowing the status of every instrument means staff can track every piece of equipment used by surgeons, helping to minimise the risk of exposure to infectious diseases. When support was discontinued for the previous system, nursing unit manager, Graham King, had to find a new solution to catalogue and track 26,000-odd surgical instruments.
After an open tender, the hospital chose Sydney-based Medical Systems Design's SurgiDat -- a medical inventory and sterilisation management application based on InterSystems' CACHÉ database.
We see how King and his staff use SurgiDat, helping them to focus on the real job of caring for children.
