SINGAPORE - McAfee, a Network Associates, Inc. business, today announced the McAfee AVERT (Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team) Wireless, the industry's first wireless Web service that enables mobile phone users to access the latest information about Internet viruses and malicious code.

The AVERT Wireless service, which is available now, offers users with Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-enabled mobile phones to receive up-to-the-minute information on the latest virus threats.

Users simply have to enter one of these URLs on the mobile phone key pad:

Once there, a user can access:
  • AVERT (Virus) Alerts: This page tells you what alerts AVERT has issued, the date, and the risk assessment.
  • AVERT Top Threats: These threats are currently being monitored by AVERT as they have heavy prevalence.
  • Contact AVERT: These worldwide e-mail addresses for AVERT are for users with virus-related questions. Users can send AVERT an e-mail directly from their phone (This is a phone feature, not an AVERT Wireless feature) .

McAfee AVERT works with McAfee Active Virus Defense customers and the anti-virus research community to provide Internet virus security services, information, diagnostics, cures and protection from new viruses as they come into existence.

  • The McAfee Active Virus Defense suite enables e-businesses to centrally manage virus policy, offer customizable updates and configurations, stop e-mail-based virus outbreaks before they occur, and use graphical reporting methods to get a view of savings provided by each tier in their anti-virus defense strategy.
