Still no doggy bag with Microsoft's name on it though...

The Liberty Alliance signed up five new members today, strengthening its campaign for common web services standards. The new members include Cingular Wireless, i2, NTT, SAP and Wave System. The Alliance, launched last September, now boasts more than 40 members, including web services heavyweight Sun. The Liberty Alliance has always plugged open standard single sign-on technology as a rival to Microsoft's Passport system, and pits itself against WS-1, the web services standards group led by Microsoft and IBM. The Alliance also announced today a new 'affiliate' level of membership aimed at government agencies and non-profit organisations, and an 'associate' level membership targeting small companies.
