Today Western Digital has lifted the lid on three new My Passport portable drives.

The three drives, called the My Passport Essentials, My Passport Essentials SE and My Passport for Mac have a form factor that's some 20% smaller than earlier portable drives.

The My Passport Essential and My Passport for Mac both measuring in at 15mm x 83mm x 110mm and come in 320GB, 500GB and 640GB flavors. The My Passport Essential SE is slightly thicker at 18mm and comes in 750GB and 1TB flavors. Along with a choice of capacities, you also get a choice of colors - black, blue, red and silver.

Along with the drive you also get Western Digital's SmartWave Software. Load the software onto your computer and the next time the drive is plugged in a backup process will automatically be initiated. Good idea since a backup drive is no use if you don't actually back up onto it!

The My Passport Essential and My Passport for Mac drives feature 256-bit hardware encryption and password protection. This helps keep prying eyes away from your data!

My Passport Essential and My Passport for Mac are listed at between $109.99 and $249.99, depending on the model and capacity.
