What about script-based call settings for eBay SkypeMe?

Last night at one of those Consumer Electronics Show par-tays, I found myself downing Fiji Waters and chattin' with friend Phil Wolff. Phil runs Skype Journal.

All of a sudden, the conversation turned to those "Skype Me" buttons that eBay sellers can place next to some of their listings. You know, call me via Skype and I will tell you about this item, answer any questions, yada yada.

But then a thought came to me: what if Skype Me buttons could be configured with rules-based scripts?

Scripts that could, for example:

Turn the button off and on when a certain price level is reached on the eBay bid. For example, the button doesn't appear as long as the bid stays below $500, but would appear once that bid reached that amount.

Turned the button off and on during specific times and days. For example, the SkypeMe button would disappear between Noon and 7 a.m. seller's local time but come back to life after then.

To fulfill the latter rule, off hours scripts might yield a "SkypeMeSoon" button that when clicked, would reveal pop-up text that would state when a prospective buyer might call the seller over Skype.

Of course there are enabling capabilities even now. Skype users who don't want to be bothered in the middle of the night could have calls rolled to voice mail. And sellers could put calling instructions as text in their eBay ad.

But what if this intelligence could be plugged into the SkypeMe button as the eBay seller registers for this button capability and then applies it to his or her item(s)?
