What are you doing this summer?

After a record-breaking ice storm in December and plenty of snow days after that, our students wrapped up the 2008-2009 school year at the end of June. Gunshy for another long winter season, the district decided to open early this fall, leaving exactly 2 months of summer.

After a record-breaking ice storm in December and plenty of snow days after that, our students wrapped up the 2008-2009 school year at the end of June. Gunshy for another long winter season, the district decided to open early this fall, leaving exactly 2 months of summer. Needless to say, I'm teetering on the edge of panic as I leave for week's vacation that I don't have to spare.

IT folks know that during the summer we can dress even more casually than usual, our hours can be flexible, and we're not being inundated with the usual stream of tech support requests. Most of us also know that this is an incredibly busy time.

This is when we hit the big reset button and make sure everything is running smoothly on day 1. It's also when every special project that we couldn't get to for the previous 9 months (or 10 months in our case). There's money to spend, hardware to buy, software to install, databases to clean, data to mine...you get the picture.

So here's my question for you? What are your projects this summer? What are the big ticket items you need to accomplish before the fall? I'm looking for some guest posts or interesting projects to feature while I'm on vacation. Feel free to email me your thoughts, posts, or stories at mrdatahs shift-2 gmail dot com.
