Windows Phone Wednesday: Two new Xbox LIVE games this week

Microsoft continues to encourage development for its Windows Phone 7 platform and the number of apps is holding fairly steady at over 700 a week.

I was out on vacation last week and did a great job of staying offline for the most part. I did update my two Windows Phone 7 devices to the NoDo update before I left though and took my HTC HD7 along for gaming on the airplane.

Two weeks ago there were 12,088 apps in the Marketplace at the time I wrote my post, based up on the count on the Marketplace Browser website, and this week we are up to an amazing 13,495. This increase of 1,407 apps in 2 weeks is awesome and over the last month or so we are seeing over 700 new apps appear each week, which is up from the 400 or so we were seeing when I started writing these articles.

Last week's Xbox LIVE game was Super Monkey Ball, priced at $4.99. This week we have two games available; Harbor Master and Centipede, both priced at $2.99. I am going to go broke buying all of these Xbox LIVE games, but I was a huge fan of Centipede as a kid and will pick this one up for sure. I'll give the other two a try using the trial period that all of these games have available.

The Deal of the Week (DotW) this week is CarneyVale: Showtime, an Xbox LIVE game, for just $1.99 (regular price is $2.99). BTW, I noticed that the DotW games are now showing up on the Marketplace right on my WP7 device to make them easier to find and pickup.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to use many apps these past two weeks since I was out on vacation and am going to cut back on these feature articles to once every two weeks as the number of apps gets overwhelming and I am only a one man show here on this ZDNet blog. Please let me know what types of apps you would like to see covered in future articles as I try to find fresh apps and ideas for this bi-weekly feature.
