World Economic Forum system hit by hackers

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has suffered at the hands of hackers at its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

During the course of last week, the intruders were able to breach security on the computer systems and access personal information on guests and members, including credit card details, names, addresses and phone numbers. Among those affected are Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and Yasser Arafat. In the past couple of years, the WEF has been dogged by attacks from anti-globalisation protestors. However, a spokesman for the Forum refused to speculate as to whether there is a connection between protestors and the computer system intrusion. Information on the Davos computer is held separately from the Forum's main server, which is located at its headquarters in Geneva.
